Prologue

I dedicate this site to my wonderful parents who I miss terribly and as a record of the West family history on the Thomas Spencer West side of the family tree and to my parent's recent history.

I am in awe of my parents for the tenacity, the spirit and the dedication they have shown to raise their family through the depression and the war years. Remembering mum's stories of the hardships they had to endure and overcome I wonder how our family has survived and remind's me of how good my life and my families life has been thanks to my parents.

I will borrow some information from a book on the West family history by Edward West Marriot called "Thomas West of Barcom Glen". Mr Marriot has undertaken some amazing research for the West family in general to establish our family roots back to Thomas and Mildred West of Brede, Sussex in 1675. I am thankful as I think most Australian West's will be for his efforts to establish our early history back to the mother country.

Thomas West of Barcom Glen - convicted and deported 18 November, 1800 on the

Earl Cornwallis leaving his wife, Martha and son Thomas Spencer.

Thomas Spencer West - the son emigrated as a free man 28 September, 1820.
